Project Description: The Bloomberg London office facility is a sprawling complex located in the heart of Central London. The project encompassed two interconnected buildings spanning over a pedestrian arcade, reinstating the ancient Roman road Watling Street below. Designed by Foster + Partners, the building features Portland stone, extensive glass, and incorporates sustainable features like rainwater harvesting and heat pumps. It houses over 4,000 Bloomberg employees and serves as the company’s European headquarters.

Project Highlights: SRM commissioned Avondale to design and build an exemplar welfare facility. This was a complex undertaking due to several constraints, including the removal of a tower crane halfway through the construction period. The project team worked closely with Central Saint Martins to design a canteen area that would provide a dining experience rivalling nearby High Street eateries. The involvement of the students brought a unique perspective to the project, and their enthusiasm for creating a welcoming space for the workforce was infectious. The completed facility catered to 2,000 operatives and was designed to provide a high-quality dining experience that would help to boost morale and productivity. The project was a success and served as a model for other temporary welfare facilities.
