DISSATISFIED WITH THE NEW RECRUITS COMING THROUGH TRADITIONAL WORK SCHEMES, AVONDALE CONSTRUCTION LTD HAVE TAKEN MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS…
Dissatisfied with the new recruits coming through traditional work schemes, Avondale Construction Ltd have taken matters into their own hands and developed ACT, an in-house training centre and logistic programme designed to recruit and train young unemployed NEETS (Not in Education and Training) and to get them working on construction sites. Avondale reached out far and wide to charities, social enterprises and support agencies across London to attract young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and offer them a chance for a successful career in Construction Site logistics.
Nick Curran Managing Director of Avondale Construction said:
‘We are passionate about attracting new people into our business to enable us to continue to grow and develop as a company so in order to engage with young people and develop the next generation of construction workers, we need to be more active and hands on as an industry. By developing our own training academy and programme has allowed us to reach out to an un-tapped talent pool of young people and offer them a unique opportunity whilst giving them the skills they need to be successful in our business. I am delighted to see the new recruits complete their training and to see them out on our sites representing Avondale Construction’
The Programme was delivered in partnership with Learning and Skills Solutions, and was run as a 3- week intensive training programme which delivered
Health and Safety
Functional Skills
Traffic Marshaling
Fire Marshaling
CSCS and Company Expectations.
On completion, all candidates are offered full time employment with Avondale Construction working on their sites across London. Throughout the training, candidates are mentored by Avondale staff to ensure they are supported and to instill the organisations key values, vision and mission. Once on site the mentoring continues with visits each week to ensure they are progressing in their roles.
Since launching in September 2016 Avondale’s training Academy has:
Worked with over 50 pan London charities, social enterprises and support agencies.
Engaged with 100 young and disadvantaged young people across London
Trained 18 unemployed NEETs in Construction Site Logistics
Employed 10 young people in Site Logistic roles across London.
